Strong Closing Kick Highlights Steady 10K Run Alexander Karas covered the 10K in 1:02:07, an elapsed pace of 10:01 per mile. He opened briskly, clicking off 9:46 and 9:54 miles before a 11:47 fifth split slowed his cumulative pace to just over 10:30. He held that rhythm through miles four and five, then surged to a 7:52 final mile, his fastest mile of the race by a wide margin and a strong way to close out the effort. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet adds context to that final-mile push, making the late-race pickup all the more notable. Karas might look at ways to carry more of that closing speed into the middle miles next time, where the pace dipped most.
