Fast Start Carries Him to a Top Finish Patrick Wessels finished 35th overall out of the field of 3,071, taking 26th among men and 3rd in the M35-39 division in 41:51. His race unfolded with a strong opening: the first two miles ticked by in 12:06, an average pace of 6:03 per mile, before a natural settling through the middle miles. Mile 4 brought a slower 7:04 split, but he rebounded to 6:35 in mile 5, showing good recovery before the finish. That opening two-mile stretch stands as the highlight of the race, built on quick, controlled pacing right from the gun. Given Boulders elevation above 5,000 feet, holding sub-6:10 pace early is a notable effort, and it set up the rest of the race well.
