Steady Effort Fades Late but Opening Miles Shine John Whitehead finished the 2026 Boulderthon 10K in 1:22:03, an average pace of 13:14 per mile, in a field of 3,071. His race followed a clear pattern: quick out of the gate, then a steady climb in cumulative pace through the middle miles before tapering further late. The first two miles were his strongest stretch, covered at an 11:06 min/mile pace, well ahead of his eventual overall average. From there, each mile added time to his cumulative pace, finishing at 13:17 min/mile by the close. Given that Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, holding that early rhythm through the opening miles stands out as the highlight of the day. Building a touch more evenly across the back half could help him carry that early strength further next time.
