Strong Opening Mile Sets the Pace for a Steady Finish Cinthya Barba covered the 10K in 1:17:02, an overall pace of 12:25 per mile. Her fastest mile came right out of the gate, a 10:57 opening effort, while her final measured mile, from mile 5 to mile 6, eased to 13:32. Cumulative pace held in the 1213 minute range through the middle miles before settling into that closing stretch, showing a race that opened faster than it closed. The 10K field set off at 8:10 AM in downtown Boulder, at more than 5,000 feet of elevation, before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall. Given that opening mile, there may be room to test a more even pacing strategy between mile one and the closing miles in a future race.
