Strong Start Fades Into a Determined Finish Patrick Mckenna completed the 10K in 58:11, an overall pace of 9:23 per mile. He opened well, covering the first two miles in 8:28 and 8:12, before easing through the middle miles in the 9:099:45 range and finishing with an 11:25 final mile. That opening mile-and-a-half was the clear high point of the race, run nearly a full minute per mile faster than his overall average a pace that, had it held, would have produced a notably quicker time. Mckenna's race ended where every Boulderthon distance does, on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a finish made a bit tougher by the city's elevation above 5,000 feet. With the early speed already banked, dialing back slightly on that first mile could help him sustain pace deeper into future 10Ks.
