Strong Pacing Through Five Miles, Even With a Late Fade Christian Long finished the 10K in 52:49, an 8:31 min/mile average pace, finishing 169th among men. His race built steadily through the first five miles, holding between 8:21 and 8:43 pace before dropping to a race-best 7:54 in mile five. The final mile slowed to 9:22, but the overall shape of the race showed a runner who controlled his effort well before easing back over the closing stretch. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Long's mid-race surge in mile five stands out as the highlight of his effort. With four miles run within a tight eight-second window early on, there's room to consider whether holding that 7:54 rhythm a bit longer could smooth out the finish in a future trip to Boulderthon.
