Day's race built steadily through the middle miles, with her cumulative pace holding in the 6:36-6:41 range through four miles before a strong fifth mile, split in 6:20, pulled her overall pace back down to 6:37 her fastest mile of the race. The final mile slowed to an 8:12 pace as the course closed out, but the earlier surge had already secured her position.
