Fast Start Gives Way to a Tougher Final Mile Juan Grijalva finished the 2026 Boulderthon 10K in 50:53. He opened quickly, covering the first three miles in 7:44, 7:15, and 7:26, with that second mile standing out as his fastest of the race. From there his pace eased gradually through miles four and five before a marked slowdown in the final mile, which he covered in 10:44, pulling his overall pace to 8:12 per mile by the finish. Running at altitude in Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet, Grijalva banked enough time in his opening miles to absorb the late fade without losing significant ground overall. With that early speed as a foundation, working on sustaining pace deeper into the race could be a useful focus for his next 10K.
