Her race unfolded in waves: after opening at 11:05, she eased through miles two and three near 11:30, then found her rhythm, dropping to 11:13 and then 10:27 for mile five her fastest mile of the day before the pace settled to 12:37 over the final stretch to the Pearl Street Mall. Running at Boulders altitude of over 5,000 feet, Nelsons mid-race surge stands out as the highlight of her effort, showing a strong ability to accelerate later in the race rather than fade.
