Steady Early Pace Fades Late in Final Mile Push Ryan Merrick finished the 10K in 53:26, an 8:37 min/mile average pace. His race opened strong, clicking off the first two miles in 8:06 and 8:00, before a slight settle through miles three and four. Miles four and five held firm around 8:20-8:23, showing solid control through the middle of the race, before the final mile slowed to 9:51, the race's toughest stretch. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, a backdrop worth noting for any effort here. Merrick's early miles were his sharpest work of the day building a pace bank before the late fade. A touch more even pacing through the closing mile could help him close strong on a similar course down the road.
