Sandoval opened with his fastest mile of the day, 8:29, and held between 8:41 and 9:04 pace through the first four miles. Mile three brought a slight dip to 9:37, but he steadied again through miles four and five before the pace eased in the closing mile. The middle stretch from mile one to mile five stood out as his most consistent running, holding tight to a 9-minute mile average.
