Steady Start Gives Way to a Patient Finish Payton Hagerty crossed the 10K finish in 1:12:53, an 11:45 min/mile average pace over the 6.2-mile course. Her race opened quickly, with a 10:00-mile first split that stood as her fastest of the day. From there, cumulative pace eased steadily, moving from 10:00 through 10:21, 10:51, and 11:18 by the four-mile mark before settling in the 11:20s-11:40s range through the finish. That opening mile was the clear high point, run well ahead of her overall average. Racing at altitude in Boulder, over 5,000 feet above sea level, she showed a strong initial push before easing pace as the race progressed a pattern she may want to consider evening out with a slightly more conservative start in future 10Ks.
