Strong Pace Through Five Miles Seals a Top-Tier Finish Walter Brose crossed the line in 40:33, placing 28th overall out of 3,071 in the field and 21st among men, with a runner-up finish in the men's 25-29 division. Brose opened with a 6:25 first mile, then found his rhythm, clocking a race-best 6:06 in both mile two and mile five. His cumulative pace tightened steadily through the middle miles, holding between 6:15 and 6:23 for most of the race before the final mile slowed to 7:39 as he approached the Pearl Street Mall finish. That closing mile aside, the middle stretch from mile one to five was the standout segment, sustained near 6:20 pace at over 5,000 feet of elevation in downtown Boulder.
