Steady Pace Through a Strong 10K Finish Joshua Stiffler crossed the line in 50:23, placing 175th overall and 123rd among men in a field of 3,071. His mile splits held in the 7:548:08 range through the first four miles before he found his fastest mile of the race, a 7:38 fifth mile, pulling his overall pace back down to 8:01 per mile. The final mile eased to 8:48 as he closed out the race. Racing at more than 5,000 feet of elevation, Stiffler's ability to produce his quickest mile late in the race, after a string of consistent efforts, speaks to well-managed pacing. Tightening the gap between that strong fifth mile and the final stretch could be a useful focus for future races.
