His first five miles were remarkably even, ranging between 9:19 and 9:44, with elapsed pace holding right around 9:259:30 for most of the race. The final mile slowed to 11:20, the race's clear outlier, pulling his overall pace back but not undoing the consistency he'd banked earlier. That opening stretch through mile three, run at a tight 9:199:32 clip, stands as the strongest sustained running of his day. The race finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting close to a course run at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
