Strong Start Fades Late in the Final Mile Gabriel Fabela completed the 5K in 28:07, an overall pace of 9:04 per mile. He opened with a brisk 7:47 first mile, holding closely to that rhythm through the second mile (8:00), keeping his cumulative pace under 8:00 per mile through two miles. The final mile slowed to 11:13, pulling his overall pace back to 8:59 by the finish. That opening mile stands out as the highlight of the race, run nearly a minute faster than his eventual overall pace. Racing at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, sustaining that early tempo through the closing stretch is a tall order. Working on finishing strength over the final mile could help him carry that fast start all the way to the line in future 5Ks.
