Kohtala opened with a strong first mile in 5:58, then held a cumulative pace of 6:04/mile through two miles before easing to a 7:03 final split as the race wore on. That opening mile stands out as her fastest stretch of the day. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, her early pace reflects a well-executed start; she may find that distributing her effort more evenly across the back half could help her sustain that early speed all the way to the Pearl Street Mall finish.
