Strong Middle Mile Powers a Steady 5K Finish Erin Moorehead completed the 5K in 28:32, an average pace of 9:12 per mile across the field of 2,677 entrants in Greeley's age group. Her race built through a strong middle stretch: after opening in 9:44 for the first mile, she surged to 8:36 for the second her fastest mile of the day before settling to 9:16 to close things out. That middle-mile push, nearly a minute faster than her opening split, was the clear highlight of her run. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Moorehead's ability to accelerate mid-race rather than fade is a strong sign of pacing control. A slightly more even split between miles one and two could be a useful target for her next 5K effort.
