Strong Middle Mile Powers a Solid Boulder 5K Ian Carter completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:11, a shift from his previous two Boulderthon starts in the half marathon, where he ran 1:39:31 in 2024 and improved to 1:35:51 in 2025. Racing a shorter distance this year, Carter opened conservatively with a 10:13 first mile before surging to an 8:28 second mile, his fastest stretch of the day, then eased slightly to 9:35 over the final mile to the finish. Carter's race unfolded at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, with the 5K starting at 7:45 AM and finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. His pacing patterna measured start, a strong middle mile, and a controlled closereflects sound tactical racing, and building a bit more consistency between miles one and three could be a worthwhile focus for future 5K efforts.
