Strong Middle Mile Powers a Steady 5K Finish Jack Thomas completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 31:54. He opened conservatively with an 11:41 first mile, then surged to a 9:17 second mile before settling into a 10:03 close, showing a race shape built around a strong middle push rather than a fade. That second mile stood out as his fastest stretch of the day, a solid negative-split move after a slower start. Racing through Boulder, which sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation, that kind of mid-race acceleration reflects well on his pacing instincts. Building a slightly more even effort between miles one and two could help him carry that strength deeper into future 5Ks.
