Fast Middle Mile Fuels a Mixed 5K Effort Erwin Navarrete completed the 5K in 28:17, an overall pace of 9:07 per mile. His race unfolded unevenly: a solid opening mile at 8:41, a strong surge to 7:44 for mile two, then a marked slowdown to 10:56 over the final mile, pulling his cumulative pace from 8:12 back to 9:07 by the finish. That second mile stands out as the highlight of the race, showing a clear ability to accelerate mid-course. Looking ahead, Erwin might consider working on maintaining that mile-two rhythm deeper into the race, as closing strong could bring his overall pace down closer to that 8-minute range he touched early on.
