Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Akio Castro #41915 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles

Fast Start Fades Into a Determined Finish Akio Castro completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:19. His race opened briskly, covering the first mile in 7:19, before easing to an 8:54 second mile and a 12:03 closing mile, a pattern that shows the early pace was tough to sustain over the back half of the course. That opening mile stands as the standout stretch of Castro's race, run well ahead of his overall 9:27 per mile average. The 5K field set off at 7:45 AM in Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation, before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. Given the strength of that first mile, Castro might look to carry more of that early rhythm through the middle stretch in future races.
