Strong Finishing Kick Powers a Faster 5K Mason Plaut ran the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 32:01, improving on his 2025 finish of 33:36 by 1:35. Plaut's pace moved unevenly across the race: an 11:03 opening mile gave way to a much quicker 8:49 second mile, before settling to 10:58 for the close. That middle mile stands out as his strongest stretch of the day, pulling his overall pace down to 9:55 through two miles before the final mile brought him home at a 10:16 elapsed pace. Compared to last year's steadier slower pace of 10:50 per mile, this year's race showed more variation but a clear net gain in speed. A slightly stronger final mile could help smooth out the pacing curve even further next time.
