Fast Middle Mile Fuels a Steady 5K Effort Brian Grewe finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 50:16. He opened with a 16:38 first mile, then surged to a 14:19 second mile before finishing with a 17:29 final mile, closing out the race with an overall pace of 16:13 per mile. That middle mile stood out as the fastest stretch of Grewe's race, a solid gain of over two minutes per mile compared to his opening split. Racing at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, Grewe showed he could find another gear mid-race even as the final mile eased back toward his opening pace. Building on that strength in the middle miles could be a useful focus for future 5K efforts.
