Fast Start Fuels a Strong Middle Mile Rachael Mckinney completed the 5K in 31:29. She opened with a 9:40 first mile, then found her best rhythm through mile two, clicking off a 9:07 pace the fastest mile of her race. The closing mile eased to an 11:40 pace, rounding out a race that built quickly before settling in over the final stretch. Boulder sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation, a backdrop worth noting for any effort run through downtown streets before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall. Mckinney's early pace shows she handled the thinner air well before the late-race pace shift.
