Strong Start Fades Over Final Mile Matt Baron completed the 5K in 26:21, finishing 290th overall and 10th in the men's 50-54 division out of a field of 2,677. He built an early lead through the first two miles, clocking 7:41 and 7:19 respectively, putting him on pace for a sub-23-minute finish. That rhythm shifted in the final mile, which slowed to 10:17, pulling his overall average to 8:30 per mile. The opening two miles stand out as the strongest stretch of the race, with Baron holding sub-7:30 pace through 2 miles before the late fade. Given that Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, that early tempo reflects sound pacing instincts even as the closing mile cost him time. A touch more even effort across the final stretch could help him carry that early speed all the way to the Pearl Street Mall finish.
