Strong Middle Mile Powers a Solid 5K Finish Robert Johnson, 29, of Superior, CO, completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 27:13. His race built momentum through the middle of the course, dropping from an opening mile of 8:24 to a quicker 7:27 in the second mile before settling into a 10:11 close over the final stretch, including the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. That second mile stood out as his fastest of the race, showing a strong surge once he found his rhythm. Given the elevation in Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet, that kind of mid-race pickup reflects solid pacing execution. Johnson might consider working on sustaining that mid-race energy through the final stretch in future 5Ks to close as strongly as he started.
