Strong Early Pace Fuels Late-Race Fade to a Podium Finish Casey Russell finished the marathon in 4:38:31, placing third in the F50-54 division. Her early splits were fast and even, holding roughly 8:30-8:40 pace through the first ten miles before a brief surge to 8:05 at mile 11. From there, pace held near 8:40-9:20 through mile 19, before elapsed pace climbed steadily to 10:36 by the finish as mile splits lengthened into the 12-14 minute range over the closing miles. The strongest stretch of the race came in miles 1 through 15, sustained at roughly 8:39 pace, a segment that carried her through the first two-thirds of the course. That effort came at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, a factor worth noting given the pace she maintained through those opening miles.
