Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Ben Owens #40012 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles
Strong Start Fades Late in the Final Mile Ben Owens completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 31:35. He opened with his quickest mile of the race, covering the first mile in 8:54, then held a similar rhythm through mile two before a marked slowdown over the final stretch pushed his overall pace to 10:11 per mile. Racing at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Owens made his sharpest move early, using that opening mile to build a cushion before the effort caught up with him late. The 5K field set off at 7:45 AM and finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. With that first-mile pace already banked, Owens might look at ways to carry more of that early rhythm into the closing stretch next time out.
