That's just under two minutes slower than his 4:26:21 from a previous Boulderthon, a negligible difference across 26.2 miles run at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet. His race opened briskly, with a first-mile split of 9:01 that proved his fastest of the day, and the opening two miles together averaged about 9:04 per mile, his strongest sustained stretch. From there his pace settled into the 9:30-10:00 range through the middle miles before easing into the 11:00s over the closing miles, a gradual fade rather than a sharp drop. Given the strength of that early pace, working to preserve more of it in the second half could be a worthwhile target for next time.
