His race built steadily: an opening mile at 7:05 gave way to a middle stretch that drifted toward the high 7:20s and 7:50s by mile 11, before he closed with a decisive surge. Miles 12 and 13 were his fastest of the race, covered in 6:44 and 6:57, pulling his overall pace back down to 7:25 min/mile at the finish. That finishing kick came on a half marathon course reshaped for 2026, with net elevation gain cut nearly 50 percent, from 384 to 203 feet a change that helped set up his late-race pace at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet.
