Fast Start Fades Into a Gritty Finish Alex Lee crossed the line in 1:44:07, good for 63rd in the men's 20-24 division. He passed halfway well ahead of that pace after opening seven miles at a strong clip, then eased significantly over the second half, closing with a mile split of 11:10 into the finish. Lee's standout stretch came early: miles 1 through 7 averaged 6:51 per mile, a pace that built a solid cushion before the second half slowed. That opening effort carried him through the course's early miles at Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, a demanding backdrop for sustaining sub-7:00 pace. With this foundation, a more even effort across the back half could help him hold more of that early speed to the finish next time.
