Strong Opening Miles Give Way to a Tough Back Half Robert Bundy completed the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:03:40. He went out briskly, covering the first 11 miles in 1:26:06 a 7:49 per-mile pace and held sub-8:00 pacing through roughly the halfway point. From mile 20 onward, his per-mile splits climbed steadily, moving from 10:37 up past 13:00 and 15:00 in the 22-24 mile range before he found some rhythm again over the final two miles, closing in 12:19 and 10:22. That early-race pace stands out as the highlight of the day, built on a course that finishes on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation. The 2026 marathon route also carried roughly 40% less net elevation gain than in prior years, down to about 603 feet, a change worth keeping in mind when comparing this effort to future editions.
