Steady Early Pace Capped by a Strong Fifth Mile Walter Schell ran the 2026 Boulderthon 10K in 55:42, an 8:59/mile average. He settled into rhythm after an opening mile of 9:05, tightening to the mid-8:40s through miles two and three, then holding that band into mile four. His fifth mile was the highlight, a 8:19 split that marked his fastest mile of the race, before the pace eased to 10:17 over the closing mile. Every distance at Boulderthon finishes on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, the stretch that closed out Schell's race. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, his early-to-mid race consistency stands out as the strongest section of his run.
