Steady Sub-7:40 Pace Carries Teen to Top-5% Finish Weston Cassidy crossed in 1:39:15, placing 327th overall and 265th among men in a field of 7,223 in the half marathon. His early miles set the tone: 7:30, 7:22, 7:38, 7:22 and 7:21 through the first five miles, an average of 7:26 per mile, the fastest sustained stretch of his race. The middle miles held firm in the low-to-mid 7:20s before a natural softening between miles 8 and 11, where his pace eased to the 7:40s and briefly 8:01. He closed with 7:32 and 7:41 over the final two miles, finishing at an overall pace of 7:34 per mile. Running at Boulder's altitude above 5,000 feet, Cassidy's pacing stayed remarkably even from start to finish. Given the strength of his opening five miles, he might experiment with holding that rhythm a bit longer before the natural late-race dip sets in.
