His opening mile of 9:49 was the fastest stretch of his race, setting an early pace he couldn't quite sustain over the final two miles. Splits show a steady slowdown9:49, then 10:12, then 11:16as cumulative pace slipped from 9:49 to 10:25 min/mile by the finish. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, holding that early rhythm as long as he did speaks well of his effort. A touch more even pacing across the back half could help him close as strong as he opens next time out.
