A Strong Middle Mile Powers a Steady 5K Finish Maduakonam Unachukwu completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 28:32, an overall pace of 9:12 per mile. He opened with an 8:52 first mile, then surged to a 7:47 second mile his fastest stretch of the race before easing to a 10:56 closing mile as he neared the Pearl Street Mall finish in downtown Boulder. Running at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Unachukwu's early pickup in mile two stands out as the highlight of his race, showing a strong ability to accelerate mid-course. With that surge banked, he might consider working on sustaining pace through the final mile in future starts, evening out the effort from start to finish.
