Strong Opening Mile Anchors Steady 5K Finish Erin Newby completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 33:04. Her race opened briskly with a 10:03 first mile, then quickened to 9:16 for the second mile before easing to a 12:36 close, bringing her overall pace to 10:40 per mile. That second mile stood out as her fastest stretch of the day, a solid surge through the middle of the course. Finishing in downtown Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall, Newby completed her race at over 5,000 feet of elevation, a notable backdrop for any runner's effort. With a steady build and a strong middle mile, there's room to work on sustaining that pace through the final stretch in future races.
