Strong Middle Mile Fuels a Steady 5K Finish Richard Seel completed the 5K in 29:17, an average pace of 9:26 per mile. He opened with a 9:43 first mile, surged to 8:18 over the second mile his fastest stretch of the race then eased to 10:18 over the closing mile to the Pearl Street Mall finish. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Seel's middle-mile push stands out as the highlight of his run. With no prior Boulderthon results on record, this finish offers a fresh benchmark: a well-paced effort bookended by a controlled start and finish, anchored by a genuinely strong second mile. Future editions could offer a chance to test whether that mid-race strength can be sustained a bit longer into the final stretch.
