Steady Early Miles Give Way to a Hard-Fought Finish Michael Mancha completed the Boulderthon Marathon in 4:21:44, averaging 9:59 per mile. He moved through the field at a strong clip in the opening miles, holding between 8:34 and 8:55 pace through mile 10, keeping cumulative pace near 8:47 for the first half of the race. The middle miles held firm near 8:45-9:00 pace through mile 18, before the effort gradually eased across miles 19-26, with per-mile splits climbing into the 10:00-13:00 range as fatigue set in over the closing 10K. Miles 1-10 stood out as the strongest one-mile-plus stretch of the day, sustained well below the overall average pace. Mancha finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, closing out a marathon that traveled out past Boulder Reservoir and through Boulder County backroads at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
