Steady Effort Fades Late as Early Pace Sets the Tone Cesare Gritti finished the 2026 10K in 59:07, just half a minute slower than his 58:36 in the same event last year. His opening mile was his best of the day at 8:22 per mile, but the pace eased steadily through the middle miles before slowing further over the closing stretch, with the final mile the day's slowest at 10:53. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Gritti's early speed reflected strong initial fitness, and holding a sub-9:30 overall pace through five miles showed solid endurance for the distance. Given the consistent slowdown pattern across both this year's and last year's 10K, he might consider a slightly more conservative start next time to preserve strength for the final miles.
