Strong Second Mile Powers a Solid 5K Finish Alex Flores completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:58, an overall pace of 9:40 per mile. Alex's opening mile came in at 9:31, before a strong second mile brought the pace down to 8:08, the fastest stretch of the race. The third mile eased back to 11:19, rounding out the finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. Alex's second-mile surge stood out as the highlight of the run, showing a clear ability to pick up the pace mid-race. Given the mile splits, there could be an opportunity to work on pacing more evenly across the full distance, starting a touch more conservatively to preserve energy for the closing mile. Overall, a well-rounded 5K effort at altitude in Boulder, a city sitting over 5,000 feet above sea level.
