Steady Miles Give Way to a Hard-Earned Closing Stretch Fabrizio Giovenzana finished the marathon in 3:55:02, an 8:58 min/mile pace. He built through the first eleven miles at a strong 8:11 min/mile clip, holding places inside the top 250 in his age group for much of the early race. That opening stretch proved to be the standout of the day, with mile splits consistently in the 7:398:35 range before the pace eased. From mile 19 onward, splits settled into the 9:3011:30 range, gradually pulling his overall pace from 8:26 to 8:58 min/mile by the finish. He closed strong, dropping back to a 9:28 mile over the final stretch. The result came at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, with the marathon finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
