Strong Mid-Race Surge Powers Top Finish Chris Lierheimer ran 22:27 at the 2026 Boulderthon 5K, finishing 132nd overall and 101st among men in a field of 2,677. His pace shifted noticeably across the race: an opening mile of 7:20 gave way to a sharp 6:20 second mile, his fastest of the day, before settling to 7:57 over the final stretch. That middle mile stood out as the strongest segment of his race, pulling his overall pace down to 6:50 per mile at the two-mile mark. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Lierheimer's ability to accelerate mid-race and still finish inside the top 10% overall reflects a well-managed effort. A touch more even pacing between miles two and three could help him carry that early speed through to the finish next time.
