Strong Start Fuels a Steady 5K Finish Kaitlin Richards crossed the line in 33:45, good for 423rd among women in the field of 2,677. Her race built quickly through the opening two miles, clicking off a 10:09 first mile before surging to a 9:31 second mile her fastest stretch of the day and the move that pushed her cumulative pace down to 9:49 per mile at the halfway point. The final mile eased back to a 12:57 split, settling her overall pace at 10:52 per mile for the 5K. Richards' race unfolded at over 5,000 feet of elevation, with the field starting downtown at 7:45 AM before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall a fitting stage in a city National Geographic once named the Happiest in America.
