Strong Start Carries Him Into the Top 10 Jason Zhang finished the 10K in 36:34, placing 8th overall and 7th among men in a field of 3,071. His race went out fast and settled into a steady rhythm, with cumulative pace holding in the 5:40s through the middle miles before easing slightly over the final stretch. His opening mile was the highlight, clocked at 5:14, the quickest of his race and a strong signal of his early positioning. From there, each mile settled into a controlled cadence, showing good composure at Boulder's altitude above 5,000 feet. If there's one thing to explore next time, it would be finding a way to sustain that opening speed a bit longer before the natural late-race fadea small tweak, not a flaw, in an otherwise well-managed effort.
