Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Monte Kemp #32483 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 10K Distance: 6.2 miles

Strong Start Carries Top-10 10K Finish Monte Kemp crossed the line in 38:18, placing 10th overall and 8th among men in a field of 3,071 at the 2026 Boulderthon 10K. His race went out fast and held together well: three opening miles at a tight 5:55 pace built a cushion that carried him through the back half despite a late fade. Splits show his fifth mile as the standout, a 5:44 clip that was his fastest of the day after a brief dip through mile four. That surge pushed his overall placement up before the final mile settled into a slower closing pace. Racing at altitude in Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet, Kemp's early pace management set up a result that held firm through the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. A touch more control in the middle miles could smooth the pacing curve even further next time.
