Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Emily Spurlock #40716 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles

Strong Middle Mile Powers Steady 5K Finish Emily Spurlock completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:48, an average pace of 9:37 per mile. Her race shape was uneven but resilient: an opening mile of 10:34 gave way to a sharp surge, with mile two covered in 7:49, before easing back to 10:21 over the closing mile. That middle mile stood out as her fastest stretch of the race by a wide margin, showing a real gear shift once she settled in. Finishing in downtown Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall, at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Spurlock's pacing swing suggests room to find a more even rhythm between miles one and three, but the mid-race burst points to strong underlying speed worth building on.
