Steady Splits Highlight a Well-Paced 10K Kaela Untch covered the 10K in 56:47, an average of 9:09 per mile. Her mile-by-mile pace stayed remarkably tight through the middle of the race, hovering between 9:01 and 9:13 from mile two through four before dropping to a race-best 8:46 in mile five. The final mile eased to 9:44, a natural settling after the strongest stretch of her race, and her overall pace across the distance stayed within a narrow band from start to finish. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Untch's even effort through the first five miles set up a strong close to the 10K. The consistency of her middle miles stands out as the clearest strength of this performance, and building a bit more finishing speed off that same rhythm could be worth targeting in future 10Ks.
