Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Egor Martynov #41090 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles

Fast Middle Mile Fuels a Solid 5K Finish Egor Martynov, age 9, completed the 5K in 29:44. He opened with a 9:59 first mile, surged to 8:17 through the second, then eased to 10:30 over the closing mile, finishing with an overall pace of 9:35 per mile. That middle mile stood out as his fastest stretch of the race, a strong push before the final mile settled back down. Racing through downtown Boulder, which sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Egor's pacing showed a runner willing to push hard mid-race even against the thinner air. Going forward, holding a bit more of that second-mile energy into the final stretch could help even out the closing pace.
